Thomas Richard Suozzi (born August 31, 1962) is an American politician, attorney, and accountant who is the U.S. representative for New York's 3rd district. Suozzi was the county executive of Nassau County, New York, from 2002 to 2009. He was first elected to the post in 2001 after four terms as mayor of Glen Cove, New York. In 2006, he ran unsuccessfully against Eliot Spitzer for the Democratic nomination for governor of New York. Suozzi was lost reelection in 2009 by Republican nominee Ed Mangano, and in a 2013 rematch was again defeated. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016 and reelected in 2018 and 2020. On November 29, 2021, Suozzi announced his candidacy for governor of New York in the 2022 election.
