Murray, Elwood, 1897-1988
Variant namesElwood Murray (1897-1988) taught speech at the University of Denver, Denver, Colo. from 1931 to 1962. He also directed the School of Speech at the University from 1932 until his retirement in 1962. He earned a Ph. D. in Speech and Psychology from the University of Iowa in 1931. In 1949 he initiated the founding of the National Society for the Study of Communication and served as its president in 1953. He served as director of the Institute of General Semantics from 1967-1969. He participated in conferences presenting papers on general semantics and communications theory.
