Pritchard, Andrew, 1804-1882
Variant namesAndrew Pritchard, a microsopist, was born in London on December 14,1804. After an apprenticeship he began a business as an optician. In 1826 Pritchard successfully made a single lens out of a diamond, and later from a sapphire and a ruby.
Pritchard was widely published as a microbiologist and on works
related to use of the microscope: Natural History of Animalcules (1834), "Micrographia:Essays on Microscopes" (1837), and "History of Infusoria," "Living and Fossil" (1841).
