Frost, Charles S. (Charles Sumner), 1856-1931
Variant namesCharles Frost was born in Lewiston, Maine, on May 31, 1856. He studied architecture for three years in several architects' offices and completed a special course in architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He became a draftsman in Boston where he worked for three years before moving to Chicago in 1882. There, he entered partnership with Henry Ives Cobb, establishing the architectural firm Cobb & Frost (1882-1889). Afterward, he practiced alone for several years until becoming a partner in the firm of Frost & Granger, which was a highly successful practice based upon railroad commissions. In 1911, following the breakup of the partnership, he maintained a private practice for the remainder of his working life. Charles Frost died in Chicago December 11, 1931.

He worked as a draftsman in Boston for three years, but moved to Chicago in 1882, where he entered a partnership with Henry Ives Cobb as Cobb & Frost (1882-1889). Frost then practiced alone several years before entering another partnership, Frost & Granger which was a successful practice based on railroad commissions until 1911. Frost then worked alone several more years and died Dec. 11, 1931.
