John Adams Harper was born in Deerfield, N.H. on November 7,1779. At age twenty-one, he became postmaster of Sanbornton, N.H. Harper later moved to Meredith Bridge (later Laconia, N.H.), where he was employed as a lawyer. He served in the New Hampshire legislature and, at the age of thirty-two, was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Harper died in 1816 at the age of thirty-six.
