San Francisco lawyer, civic activist, and politician who lived in Napa County. He specialized in real estate law and was involved with utilities and railroads seeking franchises in Northern Calif. He was District Attorney of Napa County, 1894-1902, and Congressman for the 2nd District of Calif. in 1903-1904. He ran for governor in 1906 and 1910. He served as Committeeman in charge of the Napa Relief Committee, which assisted refugees of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire.
