Temple Stanyan was an English scholar and man of letters, who served as a clerk of the privy council. Born in London and educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he held several positions before being appointed clerk to the privy council in the room of his brother, the statesman and minister Abraham Stanyan. He was also a noted scholar, best remembered for The Grecian history.
