Gary Evans Trawick grew up in Burgaw, N.C., and graduated from Burgaw High School in 1963. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (1966) and Juris Doctor (1969) degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1969, Trawick began practicing law in Pender County, N.C. working for twenty-six years in private practice. He served as a North Carolina Superior Court Judge starting in 1990. Governor James Hunt appointed Trawick as a Special Superior Court Judge starting 1 April 1999 with reappointments by Governor Mike Easley in 2005 and Governor Beverley Perdue in 2010. Trawick retired after his last term expired in October 2015. He is a resident of Burgaw, N.C., and is the author of Born in Reconstruction: A History of Pender County, N.C., and 100 Years 100 Men, 1871-1972, biographies of 100 prominent North Carolinians.
