Variant namesJournalist and music historian Ed Ward (b. 1948) began writing about music in 1965. A food editor for the Austin Chronicle in Austin, Texas, he also wrote columns for the Austin American-Statesman from 1979 through 1984. Two years later Ward, Geoffrey Stokes, and Ken Tucker published Rock of Ages: The Rolling Stone History of Rock & Roll. That same year, Ward became rock-and-roll historian for NPR’s Fresh Air with Terry Gross.
