Oppenord was a French architect and designer, son of a Dutch ébeniste employed at the Louvre. He spent seven years at the French academy in Rome, where he concentrated his training mainly on drawing. In 1715 he became chief architect to the Duc d'Orléans, the Regent of France who moved the court from Versailles to Paris, which brought to Oppenord numerous remodelling commissions. He produced thousands of drawings, mostly of architectural interior decorations, many of which were published by the engraver Gabriel Huquier between 1737 and 1751.
