Andrey Avinoff was a lepidopterist, artist and museum administrator.

Avinoff was a trustee of the American Museum of Natural History from 1942 to 1948. He was curator, Dept. of Entomology, then director of the Carnegie Museum between 1924 and 1945, and director emeritus 1945-1949.
