Byrd Baylor Schweitzer was born in 1924 in San Antonio, Texas. She attended the University of Arizona. She is an author of books for children and adults. Several of her children's books have been cited as Caldecott Honor Books and she has won numerous other awards for her work. Her books are rooted in the American Southwest with that region's unique culture. She especially focuses on Native American culture and it's rapport with nature.
