Walter John Matthau was born on October 1, 1920 to Milton and Rose Matthau in New York City. He was an American actor who starred in many films and is probably best known for his role as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and his frequent collaborations with Odd Couple star Jack Lemmon. He won an Academy Award for his performance in the Billy Wilder film The Fortune Cookie . Matthau died on July 1, 2000.
