Novelist and biologist. Between 1910 and 1912 he accompanied anthropologist A. Radcliffe Brown and Daisy Bates to the north-west of Western Australia on a scientific expedition. This experience gave him a background for his Australian novels which include Journey under the southern stars (1968), Where bonds are loosed, (1914) and The partners (1933).
