Ewostatewos, approximately 1273-approximately 1352, monk
Variant namesFounder of the Monastery of Dabra Sarabi, located near where he was born in Tigray. As a consequence of having established his monastery, Ewostatewos had many disciples who, in turn, went on to found monasteries elsewhere in Tigray, in the region of Lake Tana to the west, and especially in the regions further to the north in what is now Eritrea. His successors at Däbrä Särabi were equally influential in promoting the missionary work for which the movement was renowned.
