Antonio Joseph was an important Hispanic businessman and political leader in 19th century New Mexico. He attended Lux's Academy in Taos, Bishop Lamy's School in Santa Fe, and two colleges in St. Louis, Missouri. He was County Judge of Taos County, 1878-1880, member of the Territorial House of Representatives in 1882 (after moving to Ojo Caliente), served as the New Mexico Territorial Representative to the U.S. Congress for five terms (1885-1895), and served in the Territorial Senate of New Mexico and as President of that body, 1896-1898. He was proprietor of the Hot Springs at Ojo Caliente and died at Ojo Caliente April 19, 1910.
