Benjamin Martyn (1699-1763) was born in England, He was an original member of the Society for the Encouragement of Learning, founded in 1736, and was Secretary to the Trustees for Establishing the Colony of Georgia in America, 1732-1752. A writer, he created the play Timoleon, possibly with assistance from Alexander Pope. This play was performed in 1729 or 1730.
