William J. Vanden Heuvel, born April 14, 1930, Rochester, New York, served as co-chairperson of the New York Citizens' Committee for Jimmy Carter during the 1976 presidential campaign. He received his B.A. from Cornell University in 1950 and his LL.D. in 1952, and was admitted to the New York Bar in the same year. Vanden Heuvel also served in the following capacities: Associate with Leisure, 1952-1957; Executive Assistant to the Ambassador of Thailand, 1953-1954; Special Counsel to the Governor of New York, 1958; Associate with Javits, Moore & Turbin, 1959-1961; Special Assistant to the Attorney General of the United States, 1962-1964; Acting Regional administrator for OEO, 1964-1965; Vice President of the New York State Constitutional Convention, 1967; Chairman of the New York City Board of Corrections, 1970-1973; New York City commission on State-City Relations, 1971-1973; United States Ambassador to the European Office, United Nations, Geneva, 1977-1979; and United States Ambassador, Deputy/Permanent Representative to the United Nations, 1979-1981.
