Wexler was born in Chicago, IL, June 2, 1922; attended Univ. of CA, Berkeley; made educational and industrial films before he started a career in cinematography (late 1950s); the recipient of two Academy Awards, his credits include, Medium Cool (1969), Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966), In the heat of the night (1967), American graffiti (1973), One flew over the cuckoo's nest (1975); has made a number of documentary films in various capacities including, The bus (1965), Interviews with My Lai veterans (1970), and At the Max (1991); was also interviewed for the film documentary Visions of light : the art of cinematography (1992).

(1966), "In the Heat of the Night" (1967), "American Graffiti" (1973), "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975); has made a number of documentary films in various capacities including, "The Bus" (1965), "Interviews with My Lai Veterans" (1970), and "At the Max" (1991); was also interviewed for the film documentary "Visions of Light : the art of cinematography" (1992).
