Steffan, Johann Gottfried, 1815-1905
Variant namesThe painter, engraver and lithographer Johann Gottfried Steffan was born in Switzerland. In 1841 he enrolled at the art academy in Munich. After study trips to Italy and Paris, Steffan settled in Munich, and his studio became the center of the Swiss artists in that city. He mainly painted mountainscapes.
