Historian and professor at the University of Western Australia, first chairman of the Library Board of Western Australia. The Library Board of Western Australia, formed in 1953, was the authority accountable for the operations of the State Library Service of Western Australia, a joint enterprise between the Board and local government authorities, which was responsible for W.A.'s public libraries, as well as the State Library (formerly the Public Library of Western Australia).
