Born Chicago, IL, November 11, 1934; died 2008. Anne E. Carr was born in Chicago on 11 November 1934. After receiving her A.B. (cum laude) from Mundelein College in 1956, she taught in the Chicago Public Schools for two years while doing graduate work in English literature at Loyola University Chicago. In 1958 she joined the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, taking the religious name of Sr. Mary Anne David, BVM. By 1963 Sr. Anne had earned her M.A. in Theology from Marquette University and had begun teaching at Mundelein College, where she served as acting chair of the Theology Department from 1964 to 1966. In 1966 she began studying Christian Theology at the University of Chicago, earning a second M.A. in 1969 and her Ph. D. in 1971. When she returned to Mundelein in 1970 on a full-time basis, she was appointed undergraduate chair of the Theology Department. In 1973 she left for a two-year appointment as visiting assistant professor in the Religious Studies Department of Indiana University at Bloomington (Indiana). In 1975 Dr. Carr accepted the position of assistant dean and assistant professor of theology in the Divinity School of the University of Chicago. She was promoted to associate dean and associate professor in 1977. In 1981 she became associate professor of theology and humanities and in 1988 was promoted to full professor, serving during the intervening years as a visiting scholar at Trinity College in Dublin, Boston College, and Harvard Divinity School. Anne E. Carr passed away in 2008.
