J. H. Ricketson was second in command of an exploring party led by H. V. Stockdale, which reported on land owned by various Southern pastoral companies in the North-west Kimberley District of Western Australia. Other members of the party were G. Ashton, C. Bottner, P. Mulcahy, J. D. McIllree and R. B. Pitt. Ashton, McIllree and Mulcahy died in the Kimberleys.
