Bates, Jim, 1941-
Variant namesDemocrat Jim Bates has been involved in San Diego politics since 1971, serving as a member of the San Diego City Council until 1974. From 1975 to 1982 he served as chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. In 1982, he won California's 44th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and has served on numerous House committees and subcommittees. Bates lost the House seat in November, 1990.
