Arthur Keeler Bourne was born in New York on October 7, 1877, the second son of Frederick Gilbert Bourne (1851-1919), who helped co-found the Singer Sewing Machine Company. Arthur Bourne served for many years as a member of the Singer Sewing Machine Company's board of directors and as its treasurer. His first wife was Edith Hollins Bourne. Their son, Arthur Keeler Bourne (1899-1974), served as President of the Singer Sewing Machine Company. That marriage ended in divorce, while the Bournes were living in San Marino, California. Upon retirement in 1931, Arthur K. Bourne and his second wife, Alberta M. Bourne, moved to Nevada and acquired land at Lake Tahoe. Mr. and Mrs. Bourne had a home at Zephyr Cove, Lake Tahoe, in Douglas County, Nevada, where Mr. Bourne served as a deputy sheriff for many years. The Bournes also maintained a home in Reno near the Washoe County Golf Course. Mr. Bourne founded the annual Pasadena Golf Tourney and the A. K. Bourne golf trophy at the Washoe County Golf Course, an annual award to a tourney winner of the Reno Men's Golf Club. The Bournes were actively involved in the development of Lake Tahoe and Nevada. In 1951, the Bournes donated a custom-made private motorcoach and its pilot car to the University of Nevada.
