Sandars, S. (Samuel)
Variant namesSamuel Sandars (1837-1894) was born on 25 April 1837 at Chelmsford, Essex. He attended Harrow, before matriculating at Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1856 (B.A., 1860; M.A., 1863). He was admitted at the Inner Temple in 1859, and called to the bar in 1863. Sandars was J.P. for Buckinghamshire, and High Sheriff, 1894. He died on 15 June 1894, leaving 2,000 for the endowment of a Readership in Bibliography and Palaeography at Cambridge University, which was to bear his name. He also bequeathed a collection of books and manuscripts to the University Library.
