Furniture store in Alton, Ill.
In 1883, Caspar J. Jacoby, a son of immigrants, opened a furniture store and undertaking business in Bunker Hill, Illinois. He later joined with his 4 brothers and under the name Jacoby Brothers, they eventually opened 3 more furniture stores in Jerseyville, Alton and Wood River. The Alton store continued to operate as a family owned business over a hundred years later, as C. J. Jacoby and Company (dba Jacoby's Furniture), selling furniture and household appliances.
