Aldborough, Edward Stratford, Earl of, 1736-1801
Variant namesWhig and elected member of British and Irish Parliament.
Edward Stratford was the eldest son of John Stratford of Baltinglass. He was a Whig and elected member for Taunton to the British Parliament (1774), but was unseated for bribery and corruption (1775). He later represented Baltinglass in the Irish Parliament. He was elected a member of the Royal Society (1777). He voted in favor of the union with England (1800). Stratford was known as the "Irish Stanhope" for his eccentricity.
