Variant namesBenedictine priest and first bishop and archbishop of Australia. Appointed Bishop of Hiero-Caesarea and Vicar-Apostolic of New Holland in 1834. Arrived in NSW in 1835; consecrated Archbishop of Sydney in 1842.
