Zacariah F. Wharton was born October 4, 1853 in Ohio. He received his A.B. degree from North Missouri State Normal School (now Truman State University) in 1879, and his LL.B. degree from the University of Michigan in 1884. He then returned to North Missouri State Normal School and earned his M.S. degree in Didactics in 1899. Wharton worked as a principal for a high school in Auburn, Nevada, and in Auburn, Calif., before settling in Sacramento, Calif. to work as a lawyer. He died in Sacramento, March 19, 1922.
