Chambers, John, 1780-1852
Variant namesJohn Chambers was a member of the Whig party and served as a representative from Kentucky in the 24th and 25th Congresses. He was appointed governor of the Iowa Territory by President Harrison in 1841 and re-appointed by President Tyler in 1844. In 1849 he was appointed commissioner to negotiate a treaty with the Sioux Indians.
