Becke, Louis, 1855-1913
Variant namesGeorge Louise Becke, better known as Louis Becke, was a short-story writer and novelist prominent in the 1890s. Australian author Louis Becke was an acknowledged authority on the South Seas, and his writing generally included large amounts of picturesque descriptions and authoritative passages of people and places in the South Pacific. He travelled extensively, but always returned to Australia, where his popularity was always higher than in Europe.
