Charles Seymour was the 6th Duke of Somerset, born 1662, and died 1743. Somerset was a politician, Speaker of the House of Lords in 1690; he had supported William of Orange in 1688. He won, with his wife, Elizabeth Percy, the confidence of Queen Anne. He lost his place in Council in 1711, and was reinstated until 1716. He was also a member of the Kit-Cat Club.
