F. D. (Francis David) Nichol (1897-1966) served the Seventh-day Adventist Church in several positions, most notably as editor of the Review and Herald, the general church paper, from 1945 to his death in 1966. Nichol was an unapologetic defender of the faith of Seventh-day Adventists, ever ready to give an answer for Adventist beliefs. His commitment to the church's beliefs and historical foundation is readily seen in the numerous books he authored. Notable among these are The Midnight Cry (1944), Answers to Objections (1952), and Ellen White and Her Critics (1951). Nichol's work as chief editor of the Seventh-day Adventist Bible Commentary has left a lasting impact on Adventism. This work has for many years been a benchmark in Adventist Biblical scholarship.
