Gene Frumkin was born in New York in 1928. At age ten, he moved to Los Angeles. He received his B.A. in English from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1950. After graduation, he began writing poetry. In 1966 he began a teaching career at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where he taught English and creative writing. Frumkin edited literary magazines in both California and New Mexico. He has authored several books of poetry, he has edited or co-edited various anthologies of poetry. His poems have appeared in numerous anthologies and periodicals.
