Bassompierre, François de, 1579-1646
Variant namesBassompierre was a military hero and a successful diplomat. Made Maréchal of France by Louis XIII in 1622, and highly regarded by Richelieu, he became influential in the royal council. In 1631 he was sent to the Bastille and released only after Richelieu's death in 1643.
