Wheeler, Sawtelle purchased a store in 1917 which would be used as a gallery (Blue Duck) to house the many town records and items of local historical interest which had been collected. Later foreseeing a need to preserve area history the Islesford Historical Committee (later renamed Islesford Collection Inc.) was established (ca. 1926) to raise funds for the construction of a larger fire proof building which would become the Islesford Historical Museum.

Since the growth of the collection was rapid it became clear that a larger building was needed and the Islesford Historical Committee was established (ca. 1926) and later renamed the Islesford Collection Inc. Through the endeavors of this organization the Islesford Historical Museum would be built.
