John Henry Rutherford (born September 2, 1952) is an American politician. Since 2017, he has been a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, elected from Florida's 4th congressional district, which encompasses most of Jacksonville and most of its suburbs in Nassau and St. Johns counties, including St. Augustine. Rutherford was an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office before serving as the Duval County sheriff from 2003 to 2015. By 2011 the City of Jacksonville was experiencing its lowest murder and overall violent crime rate in over 40 years.
