Loyd Haberly, American educator and poet, was born in Ellsworth, Iowa. He was educated at Reed College, studied law at Harvard, received his master's degree from Oxford, and later acquired a doctorate of laws degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1954. He was the owner of Seven Acres Press, in Long Crendon, England, 1927-1935, and director of Gregynog Press in Northern Wales, 1936-1938. He then turned to an academic career teaching English at several universities before joining Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1949 as the chair of the English department and then becoming its dean of liberal arts, 1959-1966. Haberly became a distinguished emeritus professor of English for Wroxton College in Banbury, England, from 1972 until his death in 1981. In addition to his academic career, Haberly also was the author of more than forty books, most of them volumes of poetry.
