Roger Mais, Jamaican novelist, playwright, journalist, painter, began writing verse and short stories in the 1930s. He was a close friend of Norman Manley and was profoundly influenced by the political, social and cultural climate of the times. His involvement in the emerging nationalist movement of the time is reflected in his work.
