Edgar Wedgewood was born on 2 May 1856 in Lowell, Massachusetts. During the Spanish-American War he served as an officer in the U.S. Volunteers, advancing to the rank of captain in the artillery. After the war he continued to serve in the reserves, reaching the rank of brigadier general at the time of his death on 31 January 1920. As a civilian, he worked as an attorney in Salt Lake City, Utah.
