Acosta was a writer, lawyer and political activist, born April 8, 1935 in El Paso, Texas and raised near Modesto, Calif.

He served as an attorney for Chicano rights in East Los Angeles from 1968-1973. He disappeared in Mazatlan, Sinaloa in 1974 and is presumed dead.
