Balfour, John, 1894-1983
Variant namesSir John Balfour (1894-1983) was born in London and educated at Eton and New College, Oxford. He went to Freiburg on 27 July 1914 to study German and was interned at Baden-Baden at the outbreak of the First World War, later moving to Ruhleben, Nov. 1914-Nov. 1918. There he was the co-founder of the French Circle and on the committee of the Arts and Science Union.
