Maj. John A. Pickler Homestead
Variant namesThe Maj. John A. Pickler Homestead is a historic house in Faulkton, SD. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. The prairie Victorian was the home of Maj. John Pickler, a Civil War veteran who was influential in the transition of South Dakota from territory to statehood served in the U.S. Congress, and Alice Pickler, was involved in the Women's Suffrage movement. Construction began in the 1880s and hosted visiting dignitaries including Susan B. Anthony, Teddy Roosevelt, and Grover Cleveland.
Although it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places the home lapsed into disrepair by the 1980’s. The Pickler's granddaughter, Lois Bull donated the house to the city and all the family papers, including letter from Susan B. Anthony.
