Holman, Frederick V., 1852-1927
Variant namesFrederick V. Holman was born in Pacific County, Washington on August 29, 1852. During his early youth, his family moved to Portland, Oregon and he attended the Portland Academy and Female Seminary. He later studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1879. During his career he served on many boards, including that of the Oregon Historical Society (President, 1907-1927). He is credited with giving the city of Portland the nickname, "The Rose City."
