Women's fashion designer born in Portsmouth, Virginia. After graduating from the New York School of Design, he worked at Corbeau et Cie in the 1920's and from 1933 to 1942 co-owned Joseph Whitehead, Inc, a maker of high-priced afternoon, dinner, evening and wedding dresses. In the late 1940's he headed a division of Foxbrownie, Inc that specialized in upscale, ready-to-wear womenswear. He is remembered for his bridal gowns and "dinner-at-home" dresses.
