Harrell, Costen J. (Costen Jordan), 1885-1971
Variant namesCosten Jorden Harrell, Methodist bishop and educator, was born in Holly Grove, Gates County, North Carolina, 12 February 1885, and died in Decatur, Georgia, 29 November 1971. He became a bishop of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of the Methodist Church in 1944, was a visiting professor at Candler School of Theology, member of Emory University Board of Trustees (1931-1964), a member of the Methodist Uniting Conference (1939), and author of many articles and fourteen books related to Methodism and Christianity. He married Amy Patton Walden in 1917.
