Conservative Jewish Congregation; grew out of an association of (Orthodox) Jewish families in Woodbridge Township who met with their co-religionists from Avenel to worship on High Holy Days; incorporated in 1913 when a local minyan could be formed; met for High Holy Days at Masonic Hall until about 1915 and then at Morris Choper's store (in a loft); constructed a synagogue on School Street in 1923; adopted a written constitution and by-laws in 1938; organized a Hebrew school in 1939; employed its first Rabbi in 1945 and subsequently affiliated with the United Synagogue of America; built a new synagogue first used in 1949 (but not dedicated until 1951); added an executive committee to its governing structure in 1952.
