The French painter Jean-Charles Cazin was a professor, then the director of the Ecole des beaux-arts in Tours. In 1889 he was nominated officer of the Légion d'honneur. He received a gold medal in 1889, then the Grand Prix in 1900 at the Paris Expositions universelles.
