Henry Cushman entered the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy in 1823 and graduated in 1825. He was a native of Bernardston, MA, and following his graduation from the Academy returned there to pursue farming and teaching. Later Cushman became involved in various business pursuits and was active in local and state politics. He was twice married; first, in 1828, to Maria Louise Dickman (d. 1855), and later, in 1858, to Anne Williams Fettyplace (d. 1904). The control file included with the collection contains additional biographical information about Henry W. Cushman.
